What a 10‑Hour Disconnect Looks Like
The concept is blissfully breathing while disconnecting, observing, and chillin’ to connect. Interested? Here’s my suggestion for a full, blissful break from noise, ads, screens, and the constant multitasking tugs of “what else do I need to be doing or taking care of?”
What makes the 10 hour disconnect so beautiful is how simple it can be. You don’t need a truckload of gear. You just need shade, time, water, and a backpack of sandwiches, fruits and veggies. Optional yoga mat and pillow makes being outdoors effortless.
Pack the night before and map out where to park that has access to a bathroom.
Leave early. Pick a shaded spot. Take joy in the probability will need to adjust your set up depending on rotation of sunlight. Seek out cottonwoods by a creek, a pine grove, a canyon wall that blocks the sun. Set up a simple base: a blanket, a chair, maybe a hammock. Then watch the day stretch out before you, with nothing demanding your attention.
No notifications. No chatter. No ads. Just wind, shade, and the slow return of your own thoughts.
Intention
Go with intention. Keep it simple, based on good. Know you can be fully comfortable for 10 hours.
Additional Prep
If no shade exists, pack a lightweight tarp or sunshade and rig up some shade.
Water & electrolytes , a gallon per person for a full day, plus something salty.
Comfort seating, a chair or hammock turns “surviving outside” into “living outside.”
Simple food like fruit, nuts, sandwiches, anything that doesn’t require cooking.
Rechargeable essentials. Hopefully you have these in your outdoor arsenal, but if you don’t I recommend it, especially since you will want to take these day getaways more often once you experience the benefits: A lantern for ambiance, small portable fan, and power bank if you want light after dusk.
Rechargeable Camping Lantern- waterproof in case it rains, enjoying a thunderstorm in the middle of one builds character. Consciot makes one that has the USB-C port, adds atmosphere if the clouds darkens the skies.
Rechargeable tiny portable fan in case the temperature reaches uncomfortably high. Venty makes one and they even include aromatherapy in the small unit.
A small cooler - Cold drinks make the day feel luxurious.
A book or journal- Analog entertainment is the whole point.
Sun/bug protection cream
A light blanket or mat - For lying down in the shade and letting the world slow down.
Trash bag for any waste.
Rechargeable Power Bank / Power Station- A power station keeps your phone, GPS, lights, and small gear alive for days. Something like what Jackery makes, a Portable Power Station Explorer 300 v2.
What the Day Feels Like
Once you settle in, breathe deep satisfying breaths and observe. You notice sounds and watch the tree leaves, the flying birds, the busy insects. After awhile, you are in your zone, participating with the nature around you. You eat when you’re hungry, nap when you feel like it, wander a little, read a little, stare at the sky a lot, simmering into your intentions for the day.
By the time you head home, you feel like you’ve been gone for a weekend, not a day. Hold that space you created, lounging under the tree, in your bones. Hopefully the intention you set in now grounded in peace and until your next ten hour disconnect.
