Blueland’s Powerful Formula is Safe For You and the Planet
In the Green Trotter household, weekends usually mean errands, housecleaning, and laundry. It’s amazing how many soiled clothes three people can accumulate in a week. Not to throw my son under the bus, but most of them are his; between his flag football jersey, school uniform, and musty socks, it can be a lot.
We always do laundry late in the evening, run a cold cycle for energy efficiency, and, of course, use eco-friendly laundry soap. Luckily, chemical-free laundry detergents have become easier to find. And while many now come in recycled plastic containers or use plant-based formulas, we found that Blueland laundry soap products go one step further in their commitment to sustainability.
Founded by Sarah Paiji-Yoo, Blueland shows how cleaning brands can be truly plastic-free. Its signature zero-plastic laundry tablets come in enclosed recycled-paper packaging or refillable “forever” bottles. Just drop one tablet into your washing machine for the equivalent of two large loads and let the magic happen. One bag of the patented PowerDuo contains enough tablets for 60 loads, which is a huge money-saver, especially for someone like me, who tends to overestimate and pour more liquid detergent than necessary.
Given that track record, it is no surprise Blueland is leading the industry with safe, effective products for customers and the environment. Among B Certified Corporations, the company has a B Impact Score of 110.0, compared with an average of 50.9, and it undergoes third-party verification by Cradle to Cradle, Climate Neutral, USDA BioPreferred, and EWG Verified.

Unlike many household cleaning brands, Blueland publishes an Impact Report detailing how the company has diverted more than 1 billion plastic cleaning products from landfills and oceans. According to its 2025 Impact Report, its 4 million customers collectively saved more than 17 million plastic containers from landfills. The climate impact is notable, too: Blueland reports preventing 911 million g of CO2e from entering the atmosphere. Transparency is not always a given, but Blueland thinks otherwise. Its formula does not include the harmful 11: parabens, triclosan, microplastics, phosphates, phthalates, formaldehyde, ammonia, optical brighteners, chlorine bleach, hydrochloric acid, and MIT/BIT preservatives.
Those numbers matter even more when compared with the amount of plastic filling landfills across the United States. It is estimated that Americans generated 30 million tons of plastic packaging waste in 2025. According to Market.us, rigid plastic containers, primarily HDPE and PET resins used for detergents and other cleaning products, make up one-fifth of the total packaging market, resulting in 3 to 4 million tons of cleaning and personal care plastic bottles entering landfills annually. The staggering volume puts companies like Blueland, which are working to eliminate waste, into perspective.
What also gets Green Trotter’s attention is a sustainable brand that equally invests in community initiatives aligned with its corporate social responsibility impact. Blueland created the One Home Impact Fund to support advocacy, research, and policy promoting plastic-free products. In doing so, Blueland has committed $5 million to organizations doing their part. In 2025, it donated to Beyond Plastics, Shaw Institute, and Plastic Pollution Coalition.
Blueland’s pledge to honor the Paris Agreement’s goals by 2030 may seem ambitious, but its achievements show the company is on the right path. With sustainable cleaning product brands uniting around these goals, there is hope that the focus will remain on sustaining clean air, water, and soil for future generations. Consumers must make their demands known, and companies will listen. I experienced this during my time working for the Fair Labor Association ages ago, noting that several of its company members joined as a result of public pressure to comply with international law; in doing so, they changed their supply chain practices and withdrew from factories responsible for workplace violations.
So, when brands like Blueland make good on their promises, it's worth supporting them with our dollars. In return, there is comfort knowing they are developing products with you and the planet in mind.
